Greenberg, again.

"Voters want their pound of flesh. You ran, you said you were going to do certain things... every one of these people [Blair, Clinton, Barak, Losada, Mandela] had immense difficulties doing what they said they were going to do. Either because they overpromised, because the economy turned out to be much tougher, the budgets had to be more austere, there were other power centers that came into play, they were not as strong as they thought they were, they were not as united as they thought they were ... all of them had trouble succeeding. So all of them faced a kind of renegotiation with the voter. And voters are willing to listen, if there's reality."
